Peter Southwick has photographed bar and bat mitzvahs in the Boston area and throughout New England for more than fifteen years. His background in photojournalism contributes to the style he brings to this photography: candid, genuine photographs that tell the story of the event. Peter takes as many or as few posed photos as the family desires, and spends the rest of the day creating a generous selection of informal and candid photographs that preserve memories for years to come.
“Every bar or bat mitzvah is a unique experience with a story of its own, and my job is to tell that story in pictures. It is a privilege to be chosen to photograph this rite of passage in the life of a young person. My role is that of an unobtrusive observer: someone who never gets in the way, but is always ready to record those special moments revealing personalities and emotions. You have enough concerns on such an important day; your photographer should not be one of them. My purpose is to eliminate any anxiety about your photographs, leaving you to enjoy your family and friends.”
